What is the DELE and Why do I want it?
DELE stands for "Diploma Español como Lengua Extranjera" (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language). It is the internationally recognized official accreditation of your level of competence in Spanish issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain. The Instituto Cervantes is the institution in charge of organizing the exams, while the University of Salamanca is in charge of the preparation, correction and final evaluation of all the tests. You can sit for any of the exams at the Spanish Consulate in San Francisco.
The DELE is similar to the TOEFL or Cambridge exams in English. In many cases, you can receive academic credits for having the diplomas from many universities. Not only is it a great opportunity for official recognition of your Spanish language accomplishments, earning the diplomas is a resumé booster and can help to secure better positions in the work force.
